Made of completely safe plastic materials, these dinos are good for young boys or girls. The colorful dino bodies are fun, and kids can start learning the names of dinosaurs as they play with these toys.
While these are not pull back rolling toys, they can be played rolled in two ways. First, just push the dinosaur along, as with a regular toy car. Or, you can “rev” the wheels by pushing the dinosaur forward quickly several times and letting it go. This will cause the dinosaur to move forward quickly on its own. Young kids love the action of these dinos speeding across the floor.

6. Dinosaur 12-Pack and Book
Once a kid gets started on dinosaurs, one figure is just not enough. They are fascinated with all kinds (even if they seem particularly drawn to the violent carnivores). My family probably owns 150 different dinosaur figures and they still want more for Christmas! This set is great because it comes with 12 different dinosaurs, plus a book with information about each type. They don’t have any small pieces and are quite sturdy (hard plastic, not squishy)–definitely safe for younger kids.
These great rubber dinosaur toys are colorful, though not in realistic colors (solid bright orange, for example ) or especially detailed. The book has lots of great info so you and your child can learn more together along with the hands-on play. Get ready to hear lots of dinosaur growling!
Recommended ages: 2-7 years
7. Dinosaur Backpack
What young kid doesn’t like backpacks and dinosaurs? This cute backpack combines both, and it is great for boys or girls. The cute open-mouth design makes this backpack even more fun for little ones, as it shows the dinosaur’s teeth.

Recommended ages: 2-6 years
8. Windy City Walking Dinosaur
For a fun, interactive dinosaur toy with a budget price, look no further. The Windy City Dinosaur measures 6″ tall and 12″ long. This dino does it all. It walks and roars. LED lights make the spine, tongue, and eyes light up in red, green, and blue.
Toddlers and preschoolers love this fun dino toy. As with many similar toys, a parent’s favorite part of this toy might be the on/off switch. This dino toy requires 3 AA batteries, which are included.

9. Prextex Dinosaur Volcano House
One of the first toys kids love to have is a stuffed animal. This toy is great for kids as young as 9 months old. With 5 plush dinosaurs, it is the perfect start to a dinosaur toy collection. In addition to the dinos, this set comes with a plush volcano house (15″ tall) where the dinos can be safely zipped inside. That makes this toy great for taking in the car, to church, to grandma’s, or anywhere else!
The dinosaurs are a Tyrannosaurus rex, a brontosaurus, a triceratops, a hesperosaurus, and a stegosaurus. Unlike similar toys, this one is entirely plush, with no beads that could leak out. That makes it safer for young kids and means the toys are machine washable. You can’t ask for more than that!
Recommended ages: 9 months-6 years
10. Take Apart Dinosaurs
A STEM toy and a dinosaur toy in one–can it get any better? This exciting dinosaur toy features five dinosaurs (a Tyrannosaurus Rex, two Triceratops, a Velociraptor, a Stegosaurus, and a Brachiosaurus). Each dinosaur can be taken apart and screwed back together. Basically, these are dinosaur puzzles.
This set comes dinosaur pieces, screws, screwdrivers, and an electric drill. I love that this toy combines the fun of dinosaurs with the brain stimulation of a puzzle. All pieces and screwdrivers are just the right size for small hands. Preschoolers will have fun playing with these dinosaurs alone or with a friend. This toy is made from plastic that is non-toxic and recyclable. Be aware that the small parts could be dangerous for kids under 3.
Recommended ages: 3-6 years
11. Dinosaur Tractor Trailer
The PrexTex tractor trailer is the perfect gift for a kid who loves trucks and dinosaurs! The sixteen inch truck comes with six mini plastic dinosaurs that can be stored inside. Young kids love playing in tents and forts. This toy combines the fun of dinosaurs with a great hideout spot. The walls (both inside and outside), roof, ceiling, and floor of this fort are covered with fantastic illustrations of dinosaurs and their habitats. There are over 20 dinosaurs depicted as well as a lake, waterfall, volcano and a jungle scene.
This dinosaur play tent for toddlers measures 51″ tall and 40″ in diameter. It is a good size for toddlers and preschoolers.
Set up is quick and easy. The fort is made of polyester fabric and held up by fiberglass rods. It has mesh windows for ventilation. Cleaning is easy; just wipe down the fabric.
If you want to take down the tent, it comes with a carry/storage bag. However, we recommend leaving it assembled. The quality isn’t great so disassembling and reassembling will likely cause additional wear.
Recommended ages: 2-6 years
15. VTech Switch & Go Dinos
If you have a child who loves transportation toys and dinosaurs, this will be a hit! The toy changes between a Velociraptor and a helicopter in a few easy steps. It also plays dinosaur sound effects and facts! The rescue helicopter has a spinning propeller, searchlight, and rocket.
This toy is a part of a collection of several dino/vehicle hybrids. It features an LCD screen, plays sounds, and has lots of actions both as an animal and as a helicopter. There are so many adventures to be had and rescue missions to launch.
Recommended ages: 3-8 years
16. Dinosaur Bath Play Set
Dinosaurs are even fun in the bathtub! I know my kids spent a lot of time in the bathtub when they were 3 and 4 years old. As long as I supplied some fun toys, they were content to take nice long baths. This play set is a great option for this age, though definitely some kids older and younger will enjoy them too! It will keep them entertained for a long time as they decorate the tub walls and act out dinosaur attack scenes with the 12 different cartoon dinosaurs.
They are soft but durable, colorful, and stick to almost any hard surface when wet. These are easy to grip, easy to clean, and don’t squirt water across the room like some bath toys! They even come with a mesh storage bag that can be hung up so the water will drip out and they will dry thoroughly before next time.
Recommended ages: 1-6 years
17. Plush Dinosaur Set
This Plush Sequin Dinosaur Set comes with 4 dinosaurs: a T-Rex, a Brachiosaurus, a Triceratops, and a Stegosaurus. The colors are bright and shiny. They are made a soft, plush fabric – super cuddly for a child of any age. These dinosaurs are the perfect size, small enough to snuggle and big enough to play with.
The scales are shiny and colorful. These dinos are so cute and your child will love playing with this collection. They are perfect for playing alone or sharing with a friend.
Ages: 1 and up
18. Jurassic World Tyrannosaurus Rex
If the T-Rex was the king of the dinosaur kingdom, then this toy is the king of the dinosaur toys. The main reason being: It’s three feet long! As big as some kids! Plus its legs, arms, and jaw articulate. The great thing about the jaw is that it opens really wide–wide enough to “swallow” mini action figure dinosaurs (sold separately). There’s a door on the belly that releases them again. It’s sure to be an instant favorite with any dinosaur lover!
My boys own several Jurassic World toys and they love the quality. My 9-year-old will go on and on about how he loves that they move in different ways and how the detail in their coloring and texture is so good. Some of the larger dinosaur toys, this one included, tend to be top-heavy so the legs need to be intentionally placed so they won’t topple over when left standing. This Jurassic World dinosaur eating toy appeals to lots of ages–it’s a surefire winner!
Recommended ages: 4-12 years
19. FurReal Walkalots Dino
If your child has stuffed animals with a “leash” tied around their necks, this cute dinosaur is for her! The FurReal Walkalots Dino comes with a leash that can easily be removed for when the walk is over. As the dino walks – or is pushed on his leash – your child will love how adorable the dinosaur is. There are dinosaur sounds as well as magical ones that you can hear as he is walked.
And this dinosaur is adorable, with his big eyes and little smile. As it walks you can hear some dinosaur sounds and some “magical” ones. The dinosaur is really cute. He kind of bounces up and down and his tail is springs back and forth. If you are already a fan of Walkalots you will be happy to know that you can attach up to 3 on the same leash so you don’t spend a lot of time walking the cute little FurReal creatures.
The FurReal Walkalots Dino comes with batteries, which is always a plus for me since I almost always forget to buy them. But be warned that the cute little dinosaur has no off/on switch – those cute sounds can be heard at any time!
Ages: 4-10
20. Playmobil Dino Rise T-Rex: Battle of The Giants
Get ready for a fantastical fight between good and evil! Or in this case, T-rex and robot. This play set is sure to capture imagination. It has a dino-human team that goes to battle with all kinds of accessories, including removable armor and hairstyles, functioning cannons, barrel catapult, and more. The T-Rex’s head, jaws, arms and legs are moveable so it is ready for battle, and Ian the human can ride his back and direct him in battle.
This is a slightly pricier option, but comes with two figures (one is Ian) plus two dinos (T-Rex, Deinonychus) and a robot machine, as well as the accessories. They are only about 6 inches high but perfect for interactive playing with friends. Your child can learn more about the stories on YouTube kids.
Recommended ages: 5-12 (small parts are a hazard for under 3)
21. LEGO Jurassic World Baryonyx Face Off: The Treasure Hunt 75935
Here is another great toy for Jurassic World fans. This LEGO set contains 434 pieces and is really fun to put together. The build includes a buggy, trailer, and Baryonyx dinosaur. Owen, Claire, Danny, and Sinjin minifigures as well as Red the dog are also included.
Kids will love finding treasure with the included tools! This Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom toy is great for elementary age kids.
Recommended ages: 7-12 years
22. Fisher-Price Imaginext T-Rex
If you want a huge, epic dinosaur toy for your child, this is the one! Kids control the T-Rex to make her lunge forward and open her mouth. Press the trigger to get her to chomp down. The power pad, when pressed, sends the Jeep racing from the T-Rex. Light up the dino’s eyes either red or green with the power pad as well.
Fisher-Price Imaginext Jurassic World, T-Rex Dinosaur comes with the huge T-Rex, the Jeep vehicle, a holding base, 2 projectiles for the launcher, and an Owen figure. This well-made toy is great for any dinosaur loving child. It is sturdy and high-quality, as you would expect from the Imaginext line. This toy requires 3 AAA batteries, which are not included.
Recommended ages: 5-10 years
23. Intellisaur Dinosaur Robot
This is a toy that will appeal to kids who get excited about robotics and remote controls! This “Robot Pet” really does it all. It comes with a programmable remote control and also responds to touch sensors. It will walk, talk, dance, roar, and shake its tail and head. It takes commands individually or does tricks in a programmable series of actions.
The dinosaur will also go into “battle mode” where it will roar, launch darts from the rotating cannon on its back, play sound effects, and flash its LED eyes.
It’s about 8 inches tall and 2.5 pounds and requires two AA batteries (not included). It also charges with a USB (included), taking about 4 hours charging time for 1 hour of play time. The good news is it offers a full refund if you aren’t satisfied. Other available robots include a unicorn and puppy, in case your dino ever gets lonely!
Recommended ages: 8 and up
24. Dinosaur World Race Track
If your child loves dinosaurs, it’s likely he likes racing too. Must be a boy thing! This toy is a great way to combine those interests! Putting the track together and getting all the accessories in place is only half the fun (142 pieces). Then the battery-operated car can follow the track, climbing the slope to the bridge and then speeding down the other side before passing through the iconic Jurassic Park-style tall doors and passing dinosaurs (comes with 2) and trees (comes with 4) along the way.
Once it has gone around, it’s easy to twist the track into a different configuration and do it again. The track is made to twist, turn, and flex without falling apart. Kids might need help attaching the track to the bridge, but the track doesn’t need to be taken apart to be changed unless it is being shortened, so that part is easy for kids. The set can be expanded with other similar track sets as well.
Recommended ages: 3-8 years
25. 3D Dinosaur Night Light
Lots of kids prefer to sleep with a subtle light on, and what is cooler than a 3D dinosaur night light? This light allows you to choose from three different dinosaurs: T-rex, triceraptops, and velociraptor. It comes with a base and three acrylic sheets (one for each dinosaur). To use, just put the acrylic sheet into the base and turn on the light. While it isn’t actually 3D, it appears to be.
There are 16 different color options. Use either the base or the remote control to select a color. You can also dim the light on the base or remote. Four different modes allow the user to customize how the light displays. Choose from flash, strobe, fade, or smooth.
This dinosaur night light for kids requires 3 AA batteries. It also comes with a USB cable if you want to plug it into a computer.
If you aren’t satisfied, there is a money back guarantee.
Recommended ages: 4-10 years
26. Dinosaur: The Definitive Pop-Up Book
There’s no denying that this book has a special flair. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill pop-up. It’s something more. You’ll find multiple pop-ups on each page–always one large main one and then a few hiding under flaps that you pull open for extra info and pop-up fun.
A unique feature is that both sides of the pop-ups are colored. True quality art. The paper is strong and will hold up if the users take care. Made by author and master paper artisan Robert Sabuda, this is a great choice for a gift.
Recommended ages: 6-12 years
Reading level: Kindergarten to 4th grade
27. 3D Wooden Dinosaur Puzzles
This puzzle set takes dinosaur play to the next level. A 3D puzzle is way more exciting than a 2D puzzle, especially if it’s a dinosaur. It contains all you need to make 6 different 3D dinosaurs that stand up on legs. The pieces are pre-cut, but they have to be carefully popped out as they are a little delicate. So I recommend doing this part yourself and then letting your child assemble the model.
The manufacturer recommends it for ages 6+, but I personally think it’s better for 8+ because it’s little tedious when your attention span isn’t very developed yet. A 6-year-old will likely need an adult’s help for most of the time. Many people choose to secure it with gorilla glue and use it as a decoration. Others like to put it together and take it apart over and over again. Incredible price for a 6-piece set!
Recommended ages: 8-12 years
28. National Geographic Kids Dinopedia
This is one of the most complete kids’ dinosaur reference books ever. It is loaded with information on almost every known dinosaur, even the lesser-known ones like Kentrosaurus and Hualianceratops. Lots of detailed full-color illustrations really bring the book to life. Most dinosaur fact pages have a graphic showing how big the dinosaur was compared to a human so young readers get a better idea of the actual size of these prehistoric creatures.
The pronunciation guide was especially helpful for my family–some of these dinosaurs have really tricky names! My children also enjoyed finding dinosaurs that were discovered nearby in North America. This edition includes information only recently discovered so your budding paleontologist can stay current. The book is well-organized with a full table of contents, glossary, index, and recommended sources of additional information. This will keep your eager dinosaur-lover busy learning for hours and hours!
Recommended ages: 5-10 years
Reading level: 2nd to 4th grade
29. LEGO Creator Mighty Dinosaurs Set
LEGO lovers will be thrilled that this set is 3-in-1! You can build 3 awesome dinosaurs: T-Rex, triceratops, or pterodactyl, though only one at a time, with a relatively low piece count of 174 (comparable sets have 223-241 pieces). Fewer pieces to potentially lose can’t be a bad thing! Each one has vibrant colors (green/tan scheme), moving parts (joints at legs, tail, neck, and jaw) and great details like pointed teeth and claws as well as ferocious orange eyes.
For the real LEGO/dino enthusiasts, it’s rumored to have instructions for a bonus build brachiosaurus on lego.com. That’s the real appeal of LEGOs, right? That you can make it however you want! Being a 3-in-1 set, it’s a great bang for your buck. The kids stay busy for three times as long! Probably best suited for ages 7-12 because of the small pieces and detailed builds. Kids love making a dinosaur.
Recommended ages: 7-12 years
30. Tuko Remote Control Dinosaur
Remote control dinosaurs have risen in popularity over the past few years. Take imaginative play up a notch with an RC dinosaur! My boys each have a toy similar to this, and they love to make the dinosaurs run into each other.
Kids are able to control this RC dino with a remote control, cleverly designed with a rocky face. The controller allows kids to make the dino walk, dance, roar, and fight. This T-Rex also features LED lights that flash, making for great night time play. This talking dinosaur toy requires 3 AA batteries (sold separately).
Recommended ages: 5-11 years
31. Dig It Up! Dinosaur Eggs
Teach your child about paleontology with this exciting dinosaur egg kit. Simply soak the clay egg in water for 5 minutes and chisel away until you find the plastic dinosaur inside. Rinse the residual clay off the dinosaur, and it is ready to play with.
This project is easy for even young kids to complete (though it can be a bit messy). Each kit includes 12 clay eggs (each about 3″ long), 12 chiseling tools, 12 sets of instructions, and a guidebook about dinosaurs. You can use this in a group setting, for a birthday party or school activity, or with just one child.
Recommended ages: 4-10 years
32. Dinosaur Escape Game
Get your child into the dino action with this exciting board game. In this game, players help dinosaurs escape from an erupting volcano by getting the dinos to Dinosaur Island. A combination of strategy, memory skills, and luck of the dice roll help players move along the board.
Dinosaur Escape is the winner of several awards, including the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal and NAPPA Gold Award. It is for 2-4 players and is a great dinosaur toy for preschoolers and early elementary age kids.
Recommended ages: 4-8 years
33. Learn To Draw Dinosaurs!
Not only will this easy step-by-step drawing tutorial appeal to your child’s love for dinosaurs, but it will also develop their self-confidence and artistic skills. By following simple red lines, young artists will learn to draw 22 dinosaurs including the tyrannosaurus, brachiosaurus, stegosaurus, velociraptor, and pterosaurs. If they prefer, they can trace outlines of the dinosaurs before attempting to draw one on their own.
You’ll find that this book is well-designed and equipped with everything needed to teach your youngster how to draw dinosaurs. It offers space to practice, full-color illustrations, and factual insights about dinosaurs. Since it’s 8.5″ wide by 11″ high, it can be easily stored with other coloring books. You can’t go wrong with this!
Recommended ages: 6-9 years
34. Dinosaur Stacking Blocks
I love toys that grow with a child and these dinosaur blocks will definitely do that! Toddlers will love them because they fit in little hands and are sturdy enough to play make believe with. Older children will love the balance game they can play (the set comes with a balance board to use for this game).
This is a great STEM toy. There are 9 colorful dinosaur blocks that can help with learning colors. The blocks are made of wood, have smooth edges and are painted with environment friendly paints. Children can stack them (helps with fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination) or they can use their imagination and play with them. And it’s a great way to introduce some fun facts about dinosaurs to young children.
Ages: 3-8
35. Interactive Book and Dinosaur Figures
Kids and parents love this interactive dinosaur book that comes with 12 matching figures. This book has a sound effect for each dinosaur depicted. Kids love matching the dinosaur on the page to the corresponding button and then pushing it to hear the dinosaur roar. The pictures are very detailed.
Kids also love playing with the dino figures as they look at the pictures and hear the sounds. Not only is this a fun toy to play with, it also teaches skills of matching as well as cause and effect. In addition, kids can learn facts about specific dinosaurs. There is an optional dinosaur play mat that can be purchased with this set.
Ages: 1-5
Dinosaur Toy Summary and Recommendations
I’ve always thought dinosaurs were a great wholesome interest for my kids to have. I’m so glad when I have lots of choices when looking for a dinosaur toy that will be enjoyed for a long time. It takes a little research, but usually something jumps out at me as being closely suited to their interests and abilities.
Top Recommended Toddler Dinosaur Toy
There are so many great dinosaur toys for toddlers on this list, but my favorite is the LEGO DUPLO Jurassic World Gentle Giants Petting Zoo. It is a great beginning toddler construction toy as well as a dinosaur toy. The dinosaurs in this set are cute and are the perfect size for small hands. It is also a durable, great quality toy that will last.
Top Recommended Dinosaur Toy for Older Kids
The stand-out choice for me in dinosaur toys is undoubtedly the Jurassic World Tyrannosaurus Rex. It has the durability to hold up for any age, the giant size, and the irresistible fun of being able to move its limbs and actually swallow smaller dinosaur figures. You just can’t go wrong with it!
Your child’s level of dino-obsession is the biggest factor to take into account when choosing a dinosaur toy. My oldest son gets a little frustrated when the dinosaur toys don’t have accurate features (He will just insist that there is–err, was–no real dinosaur that had that certain head shape and only two fingers.), but my 6-year-old doesn’t have a clue about that level of detail. Only you know where your child stands on the dino-obsession continuum.
FAQs
Are dinosaur toys educational?
While dinosaur toys are fun for children, they also offer educational benefits. As children engage with a dinosaur-themed toy, whether it’s LEGOs, plastic or plush figurines, or robots, they are learning all sorts of information about dinosaurs including their names, sizes, and behaviors. STEM toys and books are particularly informative as they offer specific details about what scientists have discovered about dinosaurs.
What ages of kids like dinosaur toys?
In my experience, typically children ranging from 2 to 13 appreciate dinosaur toys. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of dinosaur products for children of all ages. Young children are drawn to dinosaur bath toys, cars, and backpacks while tweens get excited about dinosaur 3D models, detailed books, and robots. Check out what ages we recommend for each toy on our list.
What makes a durable dinosaur toy?
Since dinosaur toys are so popular among children, the trick is to find one durable enough to last for years to come. If you want something that will withstand rambunctious kids, look for something made of sturdy plastic or rubber. As a rule of thumb, I would avoid cheap products which are prone to break easily.
